Wednesday, September 21, is the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Peace. Sadly, we may not be at the goal, but there are still people out there trying. Utrecht will be celebrating once again, and will even be the site of the European launch of MasterPeace. They describe themselves as: "A new international peace initiative with the major goal to connect people and involve them in peace building. We want to mobilize millions of people - amongst the international civil society - to do work for the sake of peace in the broadest sense, including (social) sustainability, the reduction of (armed) conflicts (on both private and global levels) and international collaboration."
MasterPeace, along with others celebrating the International Day of Peace, will be holding events at Centraal Station, beginning at 9:15 a.m. There will be a "speaker's corner" and music performances. At the Stadhuis and Stadhuisplein, there will be various debates, interactive events, and music throughout the day. In the evening, Tivoli will be hosting Nacht van de Vrede (Night of Peace) with a mix of music, politics and culture. There will be films, speed-dating, snacks, and performances/DJing by Kraak&Smaak, Jungle By Night, Rockschool Mitrovica, Stormtrap, Radio Barkas and DJ Safri.
For a schedule of various events, check out the Vrede van Utrecht website. Most events of the day are free. Nacht van de Vrede at Tivoli (Oudegracht 245) is €10 and the doors open at 19:00.
