Down in Rotterdam, during this time of year, Summer Carnival gets the city in a dancing mood. Now in its 27th edition, the street party was originally started by the city's vibrant Antilian community. The festival now attracts on average close to 1 million people. According to participants the party is so good you feel like you're on the islands celebrating carnival.

One of the key events of Summer Carnival is the Battle of Drums brass band competition which takes place on the 29th of July. This is followed by the street parade concert the following day, a parade that extends over 2 kilometers (around a mile) long.
