Dutch Doc Days is an International Documentary Photography Weekend taking place June 11-12 in Utrecht. The event explores the art and importance of documentary photography. The theme this year is To Be Continued, exploring the ways that photojournalists are now looking to explore subjects for longer periods of time as they compete in a market where news sources often use photos and videos from anyone who happened to be in the right spot at the right time. The idea of slow journalism is being explored as a way for photojournalists to go deeper behind a story for a longer period of time, gaining a better understanding of the subject and also finding ways to keep important stories from disappearing from the quickly moving news feed.
There will be a series of lectures, discussions, films and displays over the weekend, taking place primarily at the Centraal Museum, Catharijneconvent and Utrechts Archief, as well as the Louis Hartlooper Complex and the Universiteits Museum. The full program and further information can be found at the official website. Entrance is free.
