Utrecht's Leckere Bier
Witte Vrouwen Bier
Is there much point to suggesting any other activities this weekend other than Queen's Night/Day? If you're in Utrecht for the festivities, wear as much orange as you can, and if you're looking for some local, organic and delicious beers to enjoy, check out the offerings from De Leckere Brewery, located here in Utrecht. The brewery opened in 1997, with the goal of creating specialty beers using only 100% certified organic ingredients. They're the first brewery in the Netherlands to do so.

A few weeks ago, while shopping at the Super de Boer on Biltstraat, I saw a poster for Wittevrouwen Bier by De Leckere Brewery. Being very familiar with the various Wittevrouwen streets and canals, I was curious about this beer made locally, particularly since they incorporate Utrecht's history into the names and brewing of their beers. At the monthly Streekmart, I got to try the Wittevrouwen beer on top. It's a really nice white beer, perfect for the warmer weather we've been having. I've since tried some of the other varieties they offer -- there are 10 in all -- and have been truly impressed.

The bottled beers are available for sale at Super de Boer on Biltstraat, as well as the VVV at the Domplein, De Groene Winkel on Zadelstraat, and even the Utrechts Archief on Hamburgerstraat, along with select Gall & Gall locations. You can also find the beers on tap at a large number of bars, cafés and restaurants in town. Graaf Floris, Stairway to Heaven, Toque Toque, Kafé Belgïe, Café Olivier, and Brasserie Domplein are just a few of the many horeca establishments. For a full listing of the locations across the country that offer the beer, check their website.
