This Saturday, 26 March, De Inkpot, ProRail's head office, will be open to the public. This building, known for its architecture, as well as the infamous UFO perched atop it (leftover from an exhibition a number of years ago), is open Saturday as part of the Monument Day Relay. Each weekend, until the official Monument Days in September 10-11, a different monument around the country will be specially opened.
The Inkpot, as it is affectionately nicknamed, was built between 1918 and 1921 and designed by railway engineer G.W. van Heukelom. The building features a contemporary design with elements of Cubism and German Expressionism. The building stands 60 meters high and is the largest brick building in the Netherlands. The entire building contains approximately 22 million bricks. There is a history of the building in one of the main halls, and when you go, don't forget to look up. The tower of the building features a stunning glass roof that is a sight to behold.
The building is open this Saturday, from 10:00 to 17:00, and is located at Moreelsepark 3, Utrecht.
