I was heading out for a night on the town in Leiden (OK, one drink with a friend) and we were searching for a cool place to hang out. We wandered by a giant cow parked on the Breestraat. We stopped and admired the spectacle, and then glanced inside. Koetjes & Kalfjes was the name of the restaurant, and it looked quite gezellig!
Being a vegetarian, the name didn't particularly appeal to me. Neither did the cow-skinned chairs, but the bar did. Though Koetjes & Kalfjes is a restaurant, they have a nice little wine bar with four seats for anyone wishing to have a drink and admire the diners. We sat for a couple hours and did just that.
Apparently Koetjes & Kalfjes also offers high tea in addition to their seemingly popular dinner selections. If you want to check it out, they're located on the Breestraat (#18).
