Green House 2.0

In the ultramodern new neighborhood of Amsterdam known as Ijberg one can find all sorts of architectural experiments. In a stark contrast to the old fashioned canal houses that go back hundreds of years, Ijberg is home to some of the most modern and experimental styles of housing.

Among those architectural wonders there are a few environmentally advanced design experiments going on. Houses that are powered by alternative energy, namely wind and sun. But not only power, above all the materials that go into building such a house are purposely chosen for having a minimal impact on the environment, this means carbon neutral, energy saving, etc.

Below you can watch a video tour of the latest version of one such house, this one contains some surprising materials such as the tree that fell on the prinsengracht last year, and support beams formerly part of Amsterdam Central Station before its ongoing renovations. The video is in Dutch but you get a good idea from the images just how innovative and attractive such a house can be.
