No matter your musical preferences, it seems that Utrecht usually has something that will catch someone's interest. This weekend is no different, with a variety of musical styles on offer, in a range of prices, as well.

First off is a free concert at the Centrale Bibliotheek Utrecht (Oudegracht 167). Tango Nights, a duo made up of Carol Ruiz (piano) and Miriam Dirr (saxophone and flute), will be performing musical tangos by Astor Piazzolla and Isaac Albeniz, along with Habanera by Maurice Ravel. The concert is Friday, 18 February, at 15:30.

Later in the evening, head to EKKO for the Clash of the Titans, where the semifinal and wildcard round of a band competition is taking place. Bands playing include: A Polaroid View (the winner from Amersfoort), Man Made Ivory (grunge), Najchevski (triprock) and Dum Dum Fever (hard rock). Tickets are just €5 and can be bought at Ekko (Bemuurde Weerd wz 3) or online. The show starts at 20:30.

Finally, if soul and funk are more your thing, head to SJU Jazzpodium for the Fudge Funky Friday with performances by The Impellers & Zick Zack Soundsystem. The Impellers are an 8-piece jazz/funk/soul band from the UK. Besides doing their own songs, they give their own funked-up vibe to songs by artists ranging from Jimi Hendrix to the Ting Tings. The Zick Zack Soundsystem is a trio from the UK that explores bass-heavy funk. The Fudge Funky Friday show begins at 22:00, and tickets cost €23. SJU Jazzpodium is located at Varkensmarkt 2.
