Rotterdam is the kind of city that has so many museums and such a busy cultural calendar, it can hard to know where to start. Although the list is long and it is surely a matter of taste, I present to you my 2010 top 10 museum list.
10. Natural History Museum - Featuring an excellent collection of pterodactyl skeletons.
9. Het Havenmuseum - a living working museum that consists of Rotterdam's port past and present.
8. Nederlands Foto Museum - housing a great collection of some of the most well known Dutch photographers ever.
7. Center For Contemporary Art - Currently featuring an exhibit entitled: "Between You and I."
6. Schielandshuis - in a city full of modern buildings, this house is the only surviving 17th century house in its original state.
5. Wereldmuseum - currently featuring a very interesting exhibition on human sacrifice, rituals, and gods of ancient Pre-Columbian civilizations in the Americas.
4. The Kunsthal Rotterdam - old art, new art, design, photography.
3. Netherlands Architecture Institute - currently not open to the public due to big renovation, once this museum is back in the second half of 2011, it is NOT to be missed.
2. The Maritime Museum Rotterdam - good for all ages and considered one of the best maritime museums anywhere in the world.
1. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen - beautiful building, excellent collection, legendary museum that is essential for any visitor OR resident of Rotterdam.
