Avatar Forest In The Netherlands

The Netherlands has been chosen by film director James Cameron as 1 of 15 countries where a so-called Avatar Forest is to be planted. The forests, inspired by those found in his hit film by the same name, are being paid for by proceeds from the film and in cooperation with local organizations.

The plan, known as the The Avatar Home Tree Initiative, calls for the planting of 1 million trees worldwide. On their website they also make it possible for visitors to adopt tree's and check on their adopted trees just by logging in.

Logging in to look at my tree doesn't appeal to me as much as the idea of going to the town of Zoetermeer to see the planted trees. They will be located just outside the town in an area known as the Bentwoud. Critics say there are far better places for walking in the forest in Holland, but I don't see how having a new forest cut possibly hurt. Just hope I live long enough to get to walk the winding paths and stand in the.. what were they called in the film.. dream places? Yes.. that sounds like a place I'd like to visit one day.
