The monthly Cultural Sunday event here in Utrecht has gone megasize this month and is taking place Friday and Saturday, along with Sunday. Starting today, October 29, theaters, clubs, museums and more throughout the city will be showcasing a variety of artists working in all sorts of fields. A combination of performances, workshops, displays, films and fun makes up the event.
Museum Night Club takes place Saturday evening and sees museums around the city open up for special club performances and innovative programming combining art and music. Most Cultural Sunday events are free, but there are costs for the Museum Club Night events, but a pass an be purchased to get you into a variety of events.
Sunday you may want to head to the Stadhuis to see a documentary following Utrecht theater artist Tjerk Ridder, as he relied on the kindness of strangers to get his caravan towed from one European Cultural Capital city to another this year. The project was called Trekhaak Gezocht, and I've mentioned it here before, including the exhibit of the trip on display now at the Stadhuis. I got to check it out this week and was impressed and inspired by what I saw.
The No Label event is always a fascinating mix of events. I've seen everything from amateur hip hop dancers to established fine artists at past events, with some experimental theater in between. In other words, there's something for everyone. Check out the full program at the official website to find something that suits your own interests.
