The Netherlands may not embrace Halloween quite as extensively as America, but there are still some Halloween activities to take part in this year. You're on your own for candy corn, though.
In Utrecht (and in other cities around the country), there are Halloween horror film features at some Pathé theaters. Saturday at midnight, a double feature of Buried and The Last Exorcism is being shown at Rembrandt 1 (Oudegracht 73). A full listing of all cities participating can be found at the official website. Movies shown vary from city to city.
If you prefer a bit less gore with your Halloween festivities, you can always go check out a pumpkin competition on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by a reading of Edgar Allen Poe's classic horror stories and poems, including The Raven. The events take place at stadserf Rood|Noot, Oude Vleutenseweg 33, Utrecht. Doors open at noon on Saturday, 30 October. The pumpkin competition is from 14-17:00, and the evening of Poe stories told around a fire, with accompanying music, begins at 20:00. Entrance for the Poe event is €7.50.
