International Day For Peace
Getting Away
September 21 is the UN-proclaimed Day of Peace. Each year, cities around the world mark this day of hope and determination with events of all kinds. Utrecht is a regular celebrant and this year is no different. It's not just a day of performances and speeches by others. It's also a chance for anyone to participate. Last year there were mass balloons released in the Domplein. This year, you can take part by forming a living peace symbol in the square behind the Stahuis. The event begins at 5 p.m. on Korte Minrebroederstraat.

Later in the evening, at 9 p.m., you can move over to Tivoli Oudegracht for activities and presentations that include art installations, spoken word performances, short theatric performances, and an appearance by peace activist Shirley Shackleton. Then, at 10:30 until 2 a.m., there will be music by the DJ collective Rebel Up! Sounclash and ska band The Upsessions. Reazun and Manu will also be making appearances.

For more information about the events, as well as a way to add a Twibbon to your Twitter and Facebook accounts, visit the website (in Dutch).
