The Wall Revisited

borderguard.jpgI stopped by the Stadhuis here in Utrecht earlier today to check out some of the Cultural Sunday events taking place today to commemorate the fall of the Berlin wall 20 years ago. A new, but very temporary, wall is being constructed this afternoon in the square behind the Stahuis. The blocks of the wall include messages from passersby in regards to what has changed and what hasn't with the fall of the wall. An interesting message I saw said, "Having a border meant for my parents, Hungarians, they could not travel freely. I can. Learn to appreciate what you have."

Events are going on all day and the wall will be ceremonially torn down this evening. It's a beautiful day of sunshine here in Utrecht today, so stop by and enjoy the exhibits and lectures. Upstairs in the Stadhuis, you can also see some great animation stills on display for the Holland Animation Film Festival.
