Looking for the best view in Leiden? Look no further then De burcht van Leiden. Also known as Leiden's Castle, it is one of the oldest surviving examples of a castle in the Netherlands. It is possible to walk to The Burcht from Central Station, and is located at the spot where the two arms of the Rhine meet. In addition to its historical significance it is located on an artificial hill, which allows excellent views of the city.
How to find the Burcht? It's close by, but can be tricky to reach. Just walk down the Breestraat past City Hall. Then cross the Koornbrugstraat (which can be identified by a covered bridge and runs from the Botermarkt to the Nieuwe Rijn). Continue straight on into the Burgsteeg, then take a left towards the Burcht. You won't miss it.
It's beautiful all year round - just try to avoid a tour in high winds and rain!
