sinterklaas.jpgChristmas starts early here in the Netherlands, with the arrival of Sinterklaas. Although his official celebratory day is December 5, he starts arriving at various cities in November. This weekend he makes his arrival in Utrecht.

On Saturday, November 14, beginning at noon, you can watch his procession through the canals and the city, starting at Twijnstraat at the Oudegracht. He'll be working his way through town ending up at the Domplein around 2:30 p.m. At 1 p.m., he'll be welcomed by the mayor of Utrecht, and there will be various events and treats beginning then at the Domplein. Mainly for kids, but it's bound to get some adults into the holiday spirit, as well. The program ends at 3:30. You can see the map of the route Sinterklaas will be following at the official site. If you've been good, maybe you'll get some pepernoten, instead of being stuffed in a sack and hauled away!
