Monday, September 21, marks the International Day of Peace. Worldwide, events will be held, both public and private, to raise awareness and encourage people and nations to stop fighting. Events will be held here in the Netherlands in Utrecht, Amsterdam, Den Haag, and Arnhem.

Here in Utrecht, the Day4Peace celebrations will be taking place at the cathedral and in the Dom Square. Events include workshops, presentations and exhibits, such as former boxing champion Lucia Rijker teaching kids about the positives of peace. There will also be a photo exhibit about a young Rwandan refugee, music, a Dick Bruna-designed public balloon event and a candle-light event to close out the day.

Events start at 2 p.m., with the public events on the Domplein scheduled for 4 p.m. (balloons), 9 p.m. (musical program), and 10 p.m. (closing events).
