As of last Saturday new EU price caps on mobile phone charges for roaming calls went into effect. In comparison to the previous cost of .49 euro cents per minute, the price will now go down to .46 cents per minute. On the surface, not a huge change unless you spend a really long time on the phone while traveling in other EU countries with your Dutch mobile.
Meanwhile receiving a call while roaming, the cause of alot of MY pain, also went down over the weekend to .22 euro cents from .24. Next year both prices will again go down a few cents as part of the EU's move to create more fair pricing for roaming.
Unfortunately text messages and data plans are not including in these changes, and will continue to be insanely priced when your not in the phone's country of origin.
So remember to be aware - your phone might ring while you're in Belgium, but it is going to cost you to pick up OR dial.
