Although you'll always hear about the big name artists when they pass through the Amsterdam - and they always do; there is actually a never-ending stream of slightly lesser known but much loved acts. Like I always say, when it comes to music in Amsterdam, no matter how unknown you think a band is, be prepared to be wrong and stand in line to get in to the venue for the band you swore no one in Amsterdam would possibly know.

I blame the internets.

Now of course there are bands that don't get popular outside the Netherlands for another reason... language. Maybe you never thought to yourself, I would love to hear some new Dutch Hip-hop. But indeed there is a whole world of hip-hop, the likes of which I myself don't delve too deep into... but it is impressive to hear their lyrics and their delivery.

Last Saturday at Melkweg, Jawat performed. This group is increasingly known in the Netherlands as a respected hip-hop act. How can there be hip-hop in the Netherlands? psha... there's hip-hop in many countries and launguages around the world. Check out the clip:
