News came in this morning that the oldest Tiger at the Amsterdam zoo died. 19 years old, which apparently is an exceptionally old age for a tiger.

Reading this news reminds me of how lovely the zoo here in Amsterdam is. While the stereotype of this city is that of an adults-only city, Artis embodies the great amount of activities for all ages here in Amsterdam.

Despite not having any children, I still roll by Artis every few months to admire the zebras, my favorite zoo residents. I float by on boat after closing, on the canal adjacent to the Zebras, and I watch them do Zebra things.

So in honor of the late Tiger: Mira, I recommend spending time at the Artis Zoo, and enjoying all the life it has to offer.
